Stress Corrosion Cracking Test

Stress Corrosion Cracking, ECSS-Q-ST-70-37C, ASTM G44

Experimental testing the resistance of metals and their welds used in aerospace, energy, transportation and general industries to stress corrosion cracking is essential to avoid sudden failure of materials and parts when exposed to combined tensile loading and corrosive environment.

The stress corrosion cracking testing is performed under static tensile loading (e.g. 75% of the 0.2% proof stress) and alternate immersion in corrosive medium (usually in 3.5 % sodium chloride) over a period of 30 days or until the occurrence of a fracture.

Mechanical testing and a wide range of metallographic examination techniques are available at AAC for the evaluation of the susceptibility of the stress corrosion cracking resistance and to classify alloys, weldments and their individual heat treatment conditions.

AAC offers testing according to ECSS-Q-ST-70-37C, ASTM G44 or DIN 50908 standards, and conforming to customer requirements on different material classes.
